"Schultze Gets the Blues"
2005
Directed by Michael Schorr
A wonderfully endearing German comedy, starring Horst Krause as a staid,
middle-aged accordionist whose life is turned upside-down when he hears a
few bars of Cajun zydeco wafting from the radio. Before long the portly salt
miner is cooking jambalaya, surprising the residents of his hamlet with his
new musical chops, and planning a trip to the Louisiana bayou. Director
Michael Schorr wrings wonderful, deadpan humor from his characters in "an
intricate, becalmed take on a soul adrift" (Village Voice). German with
English subtitles.
107 minutes. |
