"Agnes and His Brothers"
2004
Directed by Oskar Roehler
Sexuality and the
search for acceptance drive this satirical drama about three grown
siblings on the verge of collapse. There's the mild librarian, Hans-Jorg,
who battles his insatiable Peeping Tom tendencies, the Green Party
politico, Werner, whose disinterested wife and alienated son despise him,
and their sister, Agnes, a transgender who must reconcile her nightclub
dancing with the rather traditional role her boyfriend expects her to
fill. Stars Herbert Knaup and Moritz Bleibtreu (Run
Lola Run, Munich). "Freud filtered through Fassbinder" (The
New York Times). German with English subtitles.
115 minutes. |
