An insight into the contemporary neo-Nazi movement is illustrated through the
experiences of a young man, desperate for approval. He finds his new Fascist family
much more accepting and loving than his own. Nikolas Vogel's performance is worthy
of note in his role as the rather innocent young man with an angelic face who conditions
himself to brutalize and terrorize others. We appreciated the effective use of
Gustav Mahler's music, which establishes a reference to another time.
The copy that we obtained was dubbed and, unfortunately, the dubbing was so
poor it was difficult to concentrate on the serious subject matter. Try to find a
subtitled version if possible.
Walter Bannert won the Young Director Jury Prize at the Montreal World Film
Festival for The Inheritors (1984).
