Beautiful scenery and fine details in costumes and sets compliment this
sentimental story about a young man who reflects on his brief adulthood as he lies wounded
on a battlefield in WW1. A poet, he has entered the competition for the Chair of the
National Eisteddfod, a century old tradition and the most coveted prize in Welsh poetry.
He is called to war before the results of the competition are announced, leaving
his family behind to receive the news.
The Welsh music is heavenly. Hedd Wyn was nominated for an Oscar for
Best Foreign Language Film (1994).
