Itthisoontorn Vicailak's elegant coming-of-age story traces the development of Sorn, a virtuoso of the ranard-ek--Thailand's traditional wooden xylophone. Based on the life of maestro Luang Pradith Phairao (1881-1954), Vicailak's saga follows Sorn as he surreptitiously studies to be a master ranard player despite hostile disapproval, first from his parents and later from the Thai government.
