Directed by Liv Ullman
Set in Copenhagen in
1886, this is Liv Ullmann's directorial debut which deals with the efforts of Sofie
(Karen-Lise Mynster), a beautiful, emotionally sheltered, 28-year-old Jewish woman who
longs for independence, to fall in love and get married. She follows her parents'
orders and marries her dull cousin (Torben Zeller), even though she is attracted to a
charismatic painter (Jesper Christensen). With Erland Josephson and Ghita Norby.
Swedish with English subtitles.
