Winner of the Cannes Festival Palme d'Or and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Bille August's moving film features a remarkable performance by Max von Sydow as the Swedish father who takes his son Pelle to Denmark in search for a new life. In the harsh milieu of the Danish farm, Pelle is inspired by the dreams of those around him, but realizing that his father cannot help him fulfill his dream, Pelle sets off for a life of adventure--to conquer the world.
