On April 28, 1947, to the ridicule of the scientific establishment, Norwegian biologist Thor Heyerdahl and his five crew members embarked on a 4,300 mile expedition across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Polynesia by raft in an attempt to duplicate the legendary voyage of an ancient race of settlers led by the mythical hero Kon-Tiki. Hailed as one of the most fantastic feats of daring and courage of its time, the expedition attracted worldwide interest and was documented in Heyerdahl's classic book and recorded in this astonishing, Academy Award-winning, black-and-white film.  58 minutes.
