"Freud Leaving Home"
1991
Directed by Suzanne Bier
A psychobabbling
25-year-old girl, nicknamed Freud, is the focus of this bittersweet comedy. Freud
still lives at home with her Jewish family in Stockholm. As her family comes together for
their mother's 60th birthday party, they are given the news of the mother's fatal illness.
Forced to confront the reality of their relationships and their identities, the family
members reach a point of recognition and Freud tries to flee the family drama.
"Strikingly original, both in its use of humor and its new twist on the traditional
Jewish family" (Screen International). Swedish with English
subtitles. 100 minutes. |
