"Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down"
1990
Directed by Pedro Almodovar
The controversial hit
by Pedro Almodovar about Ricki, an ex-mental patient who falls in love with Marina, an
ex-porn movie star, and proceeds to capture her and tie her up at her own apartment. His
object?... Matrimony! She is torn between trying to escape and falling in love with
him. "Almodovar's theme is not the domination of women, but the strangeness of love
and possessiveness. The performances are outstanding. Antonio Banderas is psychopathic and
vulnerable, Victoria Abril is fierce and funny" (Sight and Sound).
Spanish with English subtitles.
103 minutes.

"This was a great movie! I also saw this film as part of my project for hispanic film at MCC in Arizona and really enjoyed it. The film goes quite quickly and seems like a
romanticized kidnapping. Possibly some womens fantasy to have a great looking man
kidnap her and then promise her great things such as a family home great husband and security. I think I will keep dreaming." |
