Based on an anonymous novel from the 16th century. A classic tale about a fatherless boy who is abandoned by his mother, leaving him struggling to survive at whatever work he can find.  His strange succession of employers each have a different lesson to teach him.  A blind beggar, a miserly sacristan, a fake nobleman and even a traveling band of performers all add to his understanding of vanity, cunning, deception and, ultimately, survival.  Lazarillo won the Golden Bear from the Berlin International Film Festival (1960). Spanish with English subtitles.
