"Demons in the Garden"
1983
Directed by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon
Winner
of the "Art of Cinema" award from the Moscow International Film Festival,
Demons in the Garden presents the ironic chronicle
of provincial Spain during the post-war Franco years. The film follows the relationships
of a disfunctional family: two feuding brothers and a sister, an overbearing mother plus
an adopted daughter (stunningly played by Angela Molina) who has given birth to an
illegitimate child, fathered by one of the sons. "This is probably the best film of
Aragon's career
a film of great beauty and sensitivity," wrote Variety.
