"Cabeza de Vaca"
1993
Directed by Nicolas Echeverria
Winner of eight international awards. A
stunningly beautiful biography of the Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca, the sole
survivor of a 16th century Spanish shipwreck off the coast of Florida. Cabeza de
Vaca discovers an indian tribe, the Iguase, which accepts Cabeza into their tribe.
Over the next eight years becomes a leader of the group. When a team of
Spanish Conquistadors return to colonize the indians, Cabeza's former identity catches up
with him. "Bold and imaginative, the film has ambition, freshness, imagination,
mystery and exhillarating reach. It has greatness in it." (Jay Carr, Boston
Globe). Spanish and Indian with English subtitles. 109 minutes.

"This movie i saw as part of my hispanic film class (from mcc in arizona). I would have to say this is a movie that does require some understanding of the films where-abouts
upon viewing. I would like to say that i really enjoyed this film but I think that would be stretching it. I liked alot of the experiences with the Native(Indigenous)people of the territory." |
