"Girl with a
Hatbox"
1927
Directed by Boris Barnet
Moving with the speed
and grace of the best American silent comedies, this Russian classic
teamed Anna Sten--later a star for Goldwyn in the 1930's--with director
Boris Barnet. Sten portrays a working girl who is given a seemingly
worthless lottery ticket instead of her wages by her unscrupulous
employer. The ticket wins her a fortune, and a madcap chase ensues to
possess the ticket--and Anna's love. Silent, with orchestral score.
67 minutes.
