"Don Quixote"
1957
Directed by Grigori Kozintsev
A film from the former
USSR, this masterful adaptation of Cervantes' great novel features Nikolai
Cherkassov as a classic Quixote, who becomes so enamoured with tales of chivalry that he
becomes a knight errant, and takes up arms to defend the helpless. Kozintsev
brings to the adaptation a great sense of color, spectacle and comedy, but
preserves Don Quixote's dignity. Russian with English subtitles.
110 minutes.
