"Lyrical Nitrate"
1991
Directed by Peter Delpeut
Constructed from
color-tinted and toned nitrate films found deteriorating in the attic of an Amsterdam
movie house, this unusual and moving tribute to early cinema has been made possible
through meticulous restoration. These prints, dating from the earliest years of the
century, are shown in the rich and subtle colors in which they were originally exhibited,
accompanied by an evocative soundtrack. "The cumulative effect of Lyrical Nitrate
is a revelation" (The New York Post). Dutch intertitles with English
subtitles.
