"Little Sister"
1996
Directed by Robert Jan Westdijk
A story of a
strange, sibling obsession as seen from a video camera's eye is told in this
dark, disturbing Dutch comedy. With camera constantly in hand, an aspiring
filmmaker pays a visit to his younger sister at her Amsterdam home, saying
he plans to make a documentary about her life. It's immediately clear that
there is something troubling about their relationship and, as the brother
overstays his welcome, an incestuous episode from their past is revealed.
Shot on video in a suitably raw fashion, Little Sister is a memorably
twisted slice of life. Winner, Special Jury Prize and Audience Award, Turin
Film Festival. Dutch with English subtitles. 91 minutes. |
