"The Brooklyn
Connection"
2004
Directed by Klaartje Quirijns
An official selection
at the Tribeca and Full Frame Film Festivals, Klaartje Quirijns' astounding
documentary tells the real-life story of a middle-aged immigrant from Kosovo
who built a guerilla army from the comfort of his home in Brooklyn. Tortured
by the knowledge that Serbs were responsible for his cousin's death, Florin
Krasniqi set out to collect millions in cash, arms, and equipment that he
funneled to Albanian forces in Kosovo. Quirijns tells Krasniqi's riveting
story in a film that touches on global politics, U.S. gun laws, and the
far-flung effects of the conflict in the Balkans.
