"Juan, I Forgot I Don't Remember"
1999
Directed by Juan Carlos Rulfo
Mexican filmmaker Juan Carlos Rulfo expanded his award-winning short El
Abuelo Cheno y Otras Historias into this captivating documentary about
his legendary father, poet and novelist Juan Rulfo. The director abandons
the conventional approach to biographical film in favor of an artful
reflection on the passage of time. He focuses on how the years have carved a
lifetime of experience into the worn features of his elderly interview
subjects, which include members of his family and a host of writers from his
father's generation--Juan Jose Arreola, Manuel Cosio, and the late Jaime
Sabines. Winner of Ariel Awards for Best First Work, Cinematography,
Editing, and Sound. Spanish with English subtitles. 70 minutes. |
