When itinerant masseur and master swordsman Zatoichi goes to visit the man who taught him the art of massage, he learns that his old teacher, Hikonoichi, has been murdered while traveling to Kyoto to receive the high rank of Kengyo, master masseur. When Zatochi discovers that Kengyo's daughter Osayo has been taken hostage in a brothel owned by a local gangster boss, Tarsugoro, he vows to rescue Osayo and avenge his mentor's murder.
