"Suicide Club"
2002
Directed by Sion Sono
A wave of mass suicides plagues Japan after 54 high
school girls join hands and jump from a subway platform into the path on an
oncoming train. When the investigating detective (Ryo Ishibashi) discovers a
website that tracks the suicides before they happen, the motives behind the
deaths become even harder to unravel. Director Shion Sono mixes blood, gore
and the underlying feeling of dread characteristic of contemporary Japanese
horror with sharp commentary on pop culture and media for a completely
unique experience. Japanese with English subtitles. 93
minutes. |
