"Battle Royale II -
Requiem (Special Edition)"
2003
Directed by Kinji Fukasaku
This sequel to the
ultra-violent and highly controversial Japanese blockbuster is no less
disturbing than its original. A group of idealistic teenagers are again
recruited by the government, this time to hunt internationally-known
terrorist Shuya Nanahara and his group, Wild Seven, on their island
stronghold. They are separated into pairs and connected by electronic
collars so that if one team member is killed, the other dies as well. Like
its predecessor, BRII was a box office smash that elicited great
debate about the nature and value of its violence. Japanese with optional
English and Korean subtitles. 133 minutes. |
