Directed by Roberto Rossellini/Jean-Luc Godard/Pier Paolo Pasolini/Ugo
The title reflects four
directors who contributed short films to this collection: Virginity,
by Rossellini, is a comic essay on the distinctions between illusion and
reality. Orson Welles stars in Pasolini's La Ricotta, a satire
about the debasement of religion. This film caused Pasolini to be charged
and sentenced to prison for "insulting the religion of [Italy]."
The New World, by Godard, offers a chilling view of Paris after a
nuclear war. And in Gregoretti's The Range Grown Chicken, a family
suffers the ravages of brain-washing consumerism. French and Italian with
English subtitles. 122 minutes.
