Directed by Danny Verete
The demands of modern Israeli life clash with
traditional practices in this omnibus collection of short films. In his
tales of manslaughter, spouse ownership, and infidelity, director Danny
Verete imbues his characters and settings with complex emotions and rippling
tensions. Shot before the 2000 intifada and featuring a cast of Israelis and
Jahalin Bedouins, Verete's stories are possessed with "an atavistic power,
as if they were tales that had been handed down since the beginning of time"
(A.O. Scott, New York Times). In Hebrew and Arabic with English
subtitles. 87 minutes.
