Directed by Eli Cohen
The story of one
summer in the life of ten-year-old Aviya, the daughter of a Holocaust
survivor, during the first years of Israel's independence. Aviya's mother
had been a partisan fighter during the war and she walked the thin line
between sanity and madness, forcing to Aviya live in orphanages most of
her life. This was the summer that Aviya would return home. Based on the
life of Gila Almagor, writer/producer and star of the film. Winner of the
Silver Bear, Berlin Film Festival and three Israeli Silver Menorah Awards.
"The emotionally powerful story...reveals the scars, both mental and
physical, that Holocaust survivors brought with them to Israel" (American
Historical Review). Hebrew with English subtitles.
