"The Seagull's Laughter"
2004
Directed by Agust Gudmundsson
Freya (Margret Vilhjalmsdottir) leaves her Icelandic
home as a plump, homely girl and returns in her mid-twenties as a ravishing
beauty. She moves in with her young cousin Agga (Ugla Egilsdottir) and other
members of her extended family, and Agga soon notices curious changes that
are caused by Freya's arrival. The drama that Freya causes becomes the talk
of her small seaside town, and many lives are changed forever. "An
uncommonly engaging comedy with ripe tragic undertones" (Roger Ebert,
Chicago Sun-Times). Icelandic with English subtitles.
