"Jargo"
2004
Directed by Maria Solrun
Udo Kier stars in this unusual coming-of-age drama by
Icelandic director Maria Solrun. After learning of his father's sudden
suicide, Jargo (Constantin von Jascheroff) moves with his mother from their
home in Saudi Arabia to Berlin. The young man has trouble adjusting to his
new surroundings, although he gets some help from his father's ghost (Kier),
who occasionally pops in for a late-night chat. Solrun brings a flare for
magical realism to a lively, bittersweet, fish-out-of-water tale. With Oktay
Ozdemir, Josefine Preuss, Marc Hosemann, and Nora von Waldstatten. German
with English subtitles.
