The third part of Szabo's trilogy (Mephisto, Colonel Redl) stars Klaus Maria Brandauer as a charismatic magician and clairvoyant, whose predictions of the future are uncannily accurate. When the Nazis seize power, he is forced to choose between joining them and standing alone. Brilliantly shot, with a riveting performance by Brandauer, Szabo continues to explore the moral issues which shaped the 20th century. Hungarian and German with English subtitles.
