"Jacob the Liar" The residents of a Polish ghetto during World War II live without hope, facing starvation or deportation to the Nazi death camps until Jacob begins to use his gift of storytelling to pass on good, though mostly false, news. But even the hope he inspires cannot change the heartbreaking fate of his neighbors. A touching blend of humor and tragedy. Vlastimil Brodsky won Best Actor honors at the Berlin International Film Festival and the film was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film.
