Directed by G. W. Pabst
This film dramatizes the
failed 1944 assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler by a group of army
officers led by Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, portrayed by Bernhard Wicki.
Presenting a heroic (albeit doomed) alternative to its monstrous Nazi
past, this film was embraced by a German public still struggling to come
to terms with what had been allowed to happen in their country. Also known
as It Happened on July 20. German with English subtitles.
