"Rififi"
1955
Directed by Jules Dassin
Jules Dassin's classic
tale, one of the most famous French gangster films ever made, is the story
of a gangster who, when sprung from jail, finds his wife living with
another man. He returns to his old racket, jewel thievery, and there
follows an aftermath of murder, kidnapping and retribution. Steeped in the
details of the sleazy Montmartre neighborhood, the film builds incredible
suspense, and is particularly famous for its 30-minute, silent bank heist
in which the audience is drawn in as participants. This is the complete,
118-minute version, which includes several scenes cut from the film
because of sexual or violent content. French with English subtitles. 118
minutes. |
