"Princess Tam Tam"
1935
Directed by Edmond Greville
Perhaps the best of
her six features, Josephine Baker stars in this exotic Pygmalion-like
musical comedy about a French author who goes to North Africa to write a
novel, but becomes distracted--then entranced--by a native girl whom he
transforms into a "princess." Shot partly on location in Tunisia,
Princess Tam Tam allows Josephine a chance to display her impish,
comedic charm, as well as her erotic and evocative talents. "Josephine
Baker…the one and only…astonishing," wrote The New York Post.
French with English subtitles.
