"OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of
Spies"
2006
Directed by Michel Hazanavicius
In this deadpan spoof
of 1960s spy movies, Jean Dujardin plays special agent OSS 117, a dim,
hugely arrogant French version of James Bond. When forced to leave the
ladies in Rome to solve a colleague's murder in Egypt, 117 falls
ass-backwards into clues and stumbles blindly into every problem facing the
Middle East during the film's mid-1950s setting, including the Suez Crisis.
"The film makes joyous nonsense out of bad matte paintings, obvious
miniature effects, unsubtle sexual innuendo, and a lead actor who plays the
role to clueless, arched-eyebrow perfection" (Scott Foundas, The Village
Voice). French with English subtitles.
