"The Chambermaid on the
Titanic"
1997
Directed by Bigas Luna
A poor French foundry worker travels to
England to witness the launch of the maiden voyage of the Titanic. A woman
claiming to be a chambermaid on the vessel asks to share his hotel room,
arousing erotic dreams after her departure. He takes a photograph of her
home with him and exaggerates his relationship with her until his fantasy
is accepted as reality. "...at once a delightful piece of romantic
whimsy and a meditation on the duplicity inherent in storytelling"
(Fred Camper, Chicago Reader). A Spanish/French co-production.
French with English subtitles. 96 minutes.

The film is a delightful fantasy that pulls you into
the movie. You listen to his stories just as intently as his friends do.
Becoming so involved in the stories, you also begin to see where is wife
is coming from. The ending is a delightful twist that makes you leave the
theater with a smile and think "yah - it could happen - but then you
never know - it maybe just all made up."
