Set during the last days of World War I in Bulgaria. Capitaine Conan leads a fierce group of French soldiers. Conan has the loyalty of his men, who "forget" to take prisoners but, after the war, when the unit is transferred to Bucharest, Conan discovers that he is unsuited to peacetime. Under the threat of court-martial, his friend Norbert takes a job as prosecutor to help protect him. Conan's spirits revive when he is sent to Russian to fight the Bolsheviks. Winner of the Cesar Awards for Best Actor (Phillippe Torrenton) and Best Director. Also winner of the Silver Seashell Prize from the San Sebastian International Film Festival for Best Production Design. French with English subtitles. 129 minutes.
