"The Winter War"
1990
Directed by Pekka Parikka
This grueling film is the first made about the
tenacious Finnish soldiers who defended the borders of their tiny country
for 105 days against the invasion of the overwhelming and massively armed
Soviet Red Army in 1939-40 during World War II. Based on Antti Tuuri's book,
the film is a tribute to those Finnish heroes, whose points of view allow us
to experience the brutality of daily life in the trenches.
Print is somewhat rough at times.

English subtitles. 125 minutes. |
