"Bernard Buffet: From Here to
Eternity"
1998
B.P.C./RM Arts Production
Bernard Buffet's work cannot be easily
classified. He paints large canvases and averages one show a year,
devoting each to a single theme: Paris, the circus, the life of Joan
of Arc - the list is long and varied. Working in isolation he says
"I believe in working hard. Painting is serious. A vice,
not a play thing." Buffet's recent major exhibitions have been
in St. Petersburg, MOMA in New York, Stedelijk in Amsterdam, and permanent
displays in the Modern Art Galleries of the Vatican. Recently
discovered archive footage completes a fascinating account of the genius
behind the paintings. Color. 56 minutes. |
