"Le Virgin de la Caridad"
1930
Directed by Ramon Peon
Rarely seen and vital
for anyone interested in the history of Cuban cinema, this silent feature
was directed by Ramon Peon, who made at least 70 films in Cuba and Mexico
from 1920 to 1960. The story concerns the rivalry between two men--one
honest, one corrupt--vying to marry a wealthy rancher's daughter. When all
seems lost for the honest man, he prays to the Virgin Mary to help him.
Some sources list this as the last silent feature produced in Cuba.
Spanish with English title cards. 71 minutes.
