"8-A (Ochoa)"
1992
Directed by Orlando Jimenez-Leal
This docu-drama uses actual footage to effectively
recreate the 1989 arrest, trial and firing squad execution of high-ranking Cuban general
Arnaldo Ochoa Sanchez. Purportedly taken in for drug trafficking, it is widely known that
he was arrested for suggesting at a dinner party that Castro was at the heart of Cuba's
political and economic woes. The film's title, '8-A,' reflects Ochoa's code name, and it
also appeared as graffiti during his well-publicized trial.
"In its structure, urgency and tone, 8-A resembles Z"
(Emanuel Levy, Variety)
84 minutes.
