"Rest in Pieces: A Portrait of Joe
Coleman"
1997
Directed by Robert-Adrian Pejo
An interesting expose on New York City-based
painter/performance artist Joe Coleman, who channels apocalyptic messages of
death, disease, perversion and moral corruption into controversial and often
disturbing works of art. A wholly original thinker working outside of
traditional artistic circles, Coleman responds to the political, social,
psychic and physical ills plaguing mankind through grotesque paintings and
bizarre performances, one of which involved Coleman wiring himself to
explosives and biting the heads off live mice. Includes interviews with Jim
Jarmusch, Hasil Adkins, Asia Argento, Coleman's wife, photographer Whitney
Ward, and more.
