Based
on the book Traps of Faith by Nobel Prize winner Octavio Paz, this
film by Maria Luisa Bemberg (Camila, I Don't Want to Talk About
It) tells the story of real-life Mexican poet and writer Sister Juana
Ines de la Cruz, a target of the Spanish Inquisition, and her passionate
relationship with a Viceroy's wife, who protects the nun so that she may
continue her work. As the Sister's status begins to grow, the Church
attempts to silence the nun. Starring Assumpta Sernea (Matador) and
Dominique Sanda (The Conformist, The Garden of the Finzi-Continis).
